Gus’ Goes Crazy!

Gus’ Fried Chicken was built from the idea of uniting communities with a special fried chicken recipe. Who doesn’t love fried chicken with a secret spice? Let’s get into it:

  • Gus; is located in downtown Atlanta, but my guy has locations all over the country! I appreciated the down to earth menu. It was one that left you with simple options, but you knew they would all be fire. You can find things like fried pickles, potato salad, mac and cheese. It’s like taking young uncle’s cookout and turning it into profit! I had to order their wings with baked beans and seasoned fries.
  • The sides will be first on the chopping block. The baked beans were spot on what I was thinking. They were sweet but not too sweet. They had the onions and peppers mixed in for a nice bite. The fries are classic. Good crispiness like you’re at a ballpark then finished with seasoned salt and other flavors. However, these wings… I need to run it back! They were juicy, off the bone, and spicy at the same damn time. I was chowing through the chicken so fast and effortlessly that I forgot to touch my drink. If you dare see me eating this and ask me for a bite, I will just stare at you like…

GBR Grille

GBR Grille sits in East point and emphasizes their quality of food rather than the overhead. Price point and satisfaction is their lane! That’s the lane I like to pull up in. Let’s get into it:

  • GBR Grille fits in as a fast casual dining place, but they cater to a variety of appetites. Have you ever been starving and can’t put your finger on what you want?? Tacos or burgers? Salad or Barbecue?? GBR Grille is the perfect place to have that mental breakdown! They have a beautiful range from spicy jerk burgers, blackened chicken tacos, shrimp grill mix, and many more. You literally win with whatever you impulse choice you make.
  • I settled on the shrimp mix bowl and spicy teriyaki wings w/ fries. I’ll start with the more simple dish aka spicy teriyaki wings. They saucy, plump, and spicy. I was struck in awe of the quality of the wings. The spicy teriyaki was a great balance of heat and tanginess! The fries were a nice compliment to the wings. We all HATE when the fries suck. The shrimp bowl was made up grilled shrimp, yellow rice, loads of veggies, and a sauce of your choice. It was magnificent. Of course, I loved the portions and the freshness of every vegetable. You know it’s good when your bite is just rice, grilled onions, and spinach, and that excites you. The flavor was on every bite. I will be back soon and the day after. I will tell those who ask exactly where to go..

Local Green is the Dream!

Local Green Atlanta is a fast casual restaurant whose mission is to redefine healthy, affordable eating. I wholeheartedly support putting more healthy options in areas that need them! Let’s get into it:

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is dbd7c78c-7f3a-4643-baeb-ab7b8097a45c-1.jpg
  • Local Green is exactly what it sounds like plus more! Not only are their colors and signage green, but just about all of their food options have green in them. If you’re a superstitious person, i’m sure you will make the case that it is indeed your lucky day around all of that green. Their menu contains a diverse selection that includes a power kale salad, monsta shrimp burger, vegan Oh Boy burger, and more. No chickens here for your basic butt!
  • I ordered the Oh boy burger and Air fries. First off, this burger was monstrous. I got the “OH boy” feeling. This burger resembled no vegan burger i have had so far. It looked and was presented like a $24 burger from a steakhouse. That beauty was extremely juicy and topped with natural vegetables! The mock cheese gave me all of the feels of gooey real cheese. That burger was not backing down from me. I struggled to finish for real! The air fries were cajun seasoned and had a little heat. It was a great combination! If I had some wine, I might have passed out from joy…

Tom, Dick, and Hanks is the Place

Tom, Dick, and Hanks is also known as Happy Hour Hanks for their fantastic deals and drinks. Goodie Mob helped inspire the name, and the culture inspired his flavorful style of cooking. Let’s get into it:

  • Tom, Dick, and Hanks is an experience, because it was started after Hank was promoting nightclubs and exposed to short order cooking. Could you imagine you leaving the club at 2am while off a few shots, and your friend is like “hey.. I have some dry rub wings and a fried fish sandwich for you”. You would probably drunk cry, because someone cares about you. This restaurant is located near downtown, so the rooftop patio is a perfect vibe for food and drinks. You will find menu items such as BBQ chips, brisket sandwich, crab legs, and more. Either way, you’ll leave this place a little messy from barbecue sauce or crab leg juices on you LOL.
  • I treated myself to the dry rub wings and BBQ chips with chicken. I must admit.. I had no clue what these BBQ chips were going to look like when they arrived. I expected some type of nachos, but these were insane! A pound of juicy pulled chicken layered on top of queso dip, jalapeños, and housemade BBQ chips. It had an abundance of flavor. It was like every bite a new component stood out as the favorite. I need to run these backs and explore other proteins, because this was good! Also, I ordered the dry rub wings (with ranch of course). They were smart for not saying what’s in the house rub, because it was exquisite and yummy. I bodied those wings before I could process them. When I noticed they were only $5 for happy hour, I looked at the waitress like..

Old Lady Gang! Turn up

Old Lady Gang is Kandi Burress’ baby in Atlanta. She gives credit to her old ladies who whipped up some of the best food as she grew up! I had to give it a shot, so let’s get into it:

  • Old Lady Gang is more than a restaurant, it is an experience which I believe Kandi was looking for. You are going to find groovy music, modern seating, and a busy environment. When I went, I think someone was shooting a movie outside. I was mad confused, but it fit the aesthetic perfectly. Their menu presents down south classics with a twist. You will find fried then grilled wings, deep fried deviled eggs, shrimp and grits w/ vodka cream sauce, and more! I felt the itis already creeping up on me before I even ordered.
  • I ordered the OLG fried then grilled wings and a cajun shrimp po’ boy, because who doesn’t love po’ boys. I didn’t even have take a bite before my mouth started salivating. the wings were heavenly. They really shook the game up with that fried then grilled method, because the wings were perfectly crunchy and juicy. The sauce was for sure made from grandma’s recipe, because I did’t have a clue what was in it yet it was delicious! The po’boy was exactly what I needed. The shrimp had great spice and flavor throughout, and the sauce was damn near better than being hugged. The shrimp and sauce combo still sits on my mind till this day. I wonder if i’ll ever have a better combo than that…

Trederick’s is Tremendous!

Trederick’s Seafood is known for preparing their fresh seafood daily and packing it with flavor. Who doesn’t want fresh seafood and great flavor? Let’s get into it:

  • I stopped in Trederick’s in search for some seafood since I was tired of my normal meals during the week. However, I came to discover their variety of menu items that all screamed “try me”. Per usual, I stopped by when I was already hungry and ready to eat. I’m scanning the menu to see items such as Trederick’s seafood bucket, shrimp & grits, lemon pepper wings, and more. Have y’all ever asked the worker “which would you get?” LOL that was me in there trying to decide, but I came to the conclusion that I need something fresh and something fried.
  • I ordered the seafood bucket which includes crab legs, shrimp, corn, and potatoes. My hungry ass also ordered teriyaki wings and fries. Let’s just say this seafood bucket was nothing to play with. They seasoned everything like their job was on the line! Every bite gave me life. The potatoes were broiled to perfection. The corn was marinating in the broil juices, so that was tasty. That seafood though was everything they talked it up to be! It was all super fresh and always tastes better dipped in butter. You guessed it, the wings were also bomb too. The teriyaki was not overwhelming, and the skin was not too tough. I will for sure be back. You will see me with a chicken wing in one hand and a crab leg in the other as I am dancing like..

Helen’s Hot Chicken!

Helen’s Hot Chicken was started in Nashville and now opened in Atlanta. If you like spicy food, then the trend of hot chicken is for you. Let’s get into it:

  • Helen’s is straightforward with their menu. They have chicken wings, chicken & waffles, shrimp, and fried fish. All of these items can be made with the spice level you choose. I am not a wimp, so I went ahead and ordered everything hot. Besides the simplicity, I like enjoy how they give you the bang for your buck. If you order fries, it’ll be lots of them. If you order the wings, they are the healthy sized chicken wings. They are trying to fill you up!
  • But more importantly, the flavor of this food is what we want to talk about. I dove right into the shrimp basket. Of course, I ordered for them to be made with a ‘hot’ spice level. They were perfectly fried and very juicy. The seasoning was better than your granny’s secret recipe. If I could ask Santa for something for Christmas, this would make my list. The chicken was nothing to play with either! The dry heat on the skin made this chicken exciting, because I was able to enjoy the succulent chicken before the spices came in and kicked my ass. It was a spice that you could appreciate and still hold conversation rather than you gasping for air and your nose running at the table. The fries were crispy and topped with seasoned salt. This food made me respect Nashville even more and had me considering embracing the culture. If I keep eating this shrimp and chicken more, you’ll catch me in Atlanta like..
